At the age of 15 Lieven makes his first movie. First he studies photography and at the age of 22 he graduates from the NARAFI (Film School), with honours, and is laureate for his class. His exam film 'The Bench', written and directed by himself, receives the Fuji Student Film Award for best work.

In 2000 he shoots his first feature film 'Pauline Paulette'. The film gets his world premiere on the 'Quizaine de Realisateurs of the International Film Festival of Cannes. The film wins the Public Forum Award and receives a special Jury Award at Cannes.

In 2004 Lieven directs his second feature film 'Sweet Jam' (Confituur). Look at the website of 'Confituur'.
